SIGNALMENT: Adult male cat.
HISTORY: Hit by car 24 hours prior to examination. Cat has severe paraplegia but is alert and responsive. Owner has not observed cat to urinate or defecate.

Bladder is greatly distended and easy to express. Poor perception of superficial and deep pain from tail, pelvic limbs, and caudal to L4.

NEUROLOGICAL EXAMINATION:

A. MENTAL STATUS: Alert and responsive

B. POSTURE: Normal

C. PALPATION: Very painful over mid-lumbar area. Obvious fracture of left tibia. Both rear feet are swollen and warm. Femoral pulse present in both legs.

D. GAIT: Paraplegia. Can not move tail.

E. POSTURAL REACTIONS:
