SIGNALMENT: German shepherd, m/c, 9 years
HISTORY: Difficulty getting up and using rear legs for the past 5-6 months. Originally thought to be hip dysplasia. Antiinflammatory medication has not helped. Signs are progressive and dog is now knuckling and falling on rear legs. Dog does not seem painful.

NEUROLOGICAL EXAMINATION:

A. MENTAL STATUS: Alert and responsive.

B. POSTURE: Normal

C. PALPATION: Mild pain in both coxofemoral joints. Hips can be partially subluxated. Mild pain noted at TL region. Dorsal surface of pelvic claws are worn.

D. GAIT: Marked paraparesis and ataxia. Stands knuckled over on rear feet. Falls left and right on pelvic limbs, especially when turning. Front legs appear normal.
