SIGNALMENT: Minature poodle, m/c, 4 years old
HISTORY: 6 week history of reluctance to walk up or down stairs. Cries out when picked up or if forced to move quickly. During last 72 hours, dog is ataxic on all 4 legs. Falls over and cries out. Holds head very low and walks very slowly.

Holds head low with neck extended. Cries out when touched. Abdomen is tense. Moving head creates extreme pain in dog.

NEUROLOGICAL EXAMINATION:

A. MENTAL STATUS: Apprehensive. Responsive.

B. POSTURE: Normal

C. PALPATION: Cervical rigidity. Cervical palpation induces painful response.

D. GAIT: Mild tetraparesis is present. Tends to drift right and left. Hypermetria is present.
