Dermatology Case Review INSTRUCTIONS
The presentation format uses three on-line "frames".
Left: displays a Glossary.
Center: the Case frame will display the case information and the steps necessary to resolve it.
Right: changes at various times to show additional reference material, the expert's answers to which you can compare yours, additional links, and these instructions and hints.
All 3 frames have scrollbars which you may use to navigate within the frame. The frames may be re-sized at any time to allow you to view any portion of the material more clearly. (Move your cursor slowly across the boundary between frames until the cursor changes to a double-headed arrow. Hold down the left mouse button while you drag the boundary to change the sizes of the two frames it separates. Release the mouse button.)
The center column presents a seven-step approach to resolving the case. The steps are listed for each case. You are reminded of the instructions with each step. Proceed through the steps in sequence following the instructions as presented. The last item in each step is a chance to display (in the right frame) the expert's selections so that you may compare them with yours.
|All illustrations can be clicked on for a larger view--and sometimes hints.|
All underlined words or phrases link to additional material. For instance, the first item in the Lesion Selection List is Alopecia. Clicking on it will cause the Glossary (left) frame to move to the definition of alopecia.
When marking the lesions that you identify from the slides, notice that all selections are initially marked as "No"; therefore you need to click only those you think should be "Yes."
When you click on a button to select a Diagnostic Procedure, you will get a small, gray box giving you immediate feedback. You can either click on "OK" or press the Enter key to close the feedback window. Notice that all selections are marked as "No" initially, therefore you need only to click on those you think should be "Yes." The expert's findings will show all procedures used and the results of each.
After completing your selections in each step, click on the link to view the expert's findings. (It may be helpful to re-size and/or scroll the frames to put the answers side-by-side with yours for comparison.) For an explanation of the answers, click on the "Yes" or "No" button of any listed answer to receive immediate feed-back. You must either press the Enter key or click on "OK" to close the feedback window.
When you begin Case 1, this information will be placed in the right-hand frame. You can refer to it while looking at the actual case. You can also recall it to the right-hand frame at any time by clicking on the Instructions link in column 1.
To select a different case, click on the Instructions link in column 1, then use the "Select a Case" option at the top. You must click the "Then Click" button to go to the case which you select.
