Course Format: Veterinary Histology, VMED 7123, is taught in two lecture periods and one lab period per week.  Lecture and lab material for Dr. Ownby's part is presented on the College's web site under Histology.  Topics covered in the web program closely follow those covered in the lectures and labs.  It is possible to do well in the course without using the web-based programs, but attendance at lectures and laboratory sessions is required.  (The pages have been re-worked for Internet Explorer, but please make the adjustment explained at the bottom of the links in the left pane)

Specifics: Each lesson begins by presenting the structure and function of a system.  Specific objectives for each system are given with the lesson.  After the material is presented, the lesson contains self tests.  Completing these self tests is highly recommended since this will allow you to assess your command and understanding of the material presented in the lesson.

Course Objectives:

  1. To understand the histological structure of each of the organs in the systems covered.
  2. To be able to identify cells, tissues and organs in the systems covered.
  3. To understand the structural and functional relationships of the cells, tissues and organs in the systems covered.

Course Outline:

Digestive System

Hematopoiesis

Immune System

Integument and Hooves

Male Reproductive System
