Diagnostic Exercise 4

Case 2

liver abscess

Liver of an ox. You should be able to recognize the etiology of this lesion, its pathogenesis, perhaps the circumstances under which it occurred. The lesion causes me to wonder whether this ox might have a bloody nose. What do you think about that?

This is hepatic necrobacillosis.

The preliminary disease process is due to a defect in integrity of GI mucosa. It is often due to rumen acidosis and rumenitis usually.

Could there have been a bloody nose?
Occasionally, blood borne infection causes a pulmonary arteritis that can result in aneurysm, leading to ruptured aneurysm and subsequent bleeding
