Case 1

Portrayed in the first slide is a dog which seems to have a wasting disease, strange posture, and perhaps some other things.

• What else do you see?
• Do you think he is lame or sore?
• Do you think he might be breathing hard?
• What might be the relationship between what you see and hematuria?

This photo should serve to answer at least some of the questions. You now know that the dog has hypertrophic osteoarthropathy.

• What is the relationship of the above questions related to HO?
• What is the radiographic appearance of this lesion?
• A final question, do you know what the appearance of this disease or this lesion is in a horse? It should be covered in Jubb and Kennedy.

NOTES:
There is generalized wasting and symmetrical enlargement of the legs. Are legs soft or firm, hot or cold, etc.? HO is hard - edema is soft. If edema, why is there not ascites in this dog? What is the relationship of HO to lesions in other areas - thorax, urinary bladder, vagus?
