These three photographs are related. The left photograph is an easy one, right? Everybody knows that. Even dung beetles know about this.
The middle photograph appears to be a large vessel.
And the right photograph, if you look carefully, you will be able to work it out. This is out of a dog. The specimen was fixed. This dog probably died very suddenly with a chest full of blood.
The left photograph is a spirocercal granoloma in the esophagus.
The middle photograph illulstrates multiple aneurysms of aorta. A virtually constant lesion when there is esophageal Spirocerca infection.
The right photograph illustrates severe spirocercal aortitis in arch of aorta with marked aneurysmal dilatation. Occasionally spirocercosis involves aortic arch in this fashion and leads to rupture and peracute death.
